Stonefort Campground

About Us

My Dream

I dreamed of building campsites for people who wanted to get away from the noise and bustle of the city and enjoy the outdoors. It would have to be trouble free, without the hassle of emptying those little sewer wagons or worrying about how much power was available when you wanted to use your air conditioning. Good fishing lakes would be required. Mature shade trees on the sites would be great! Every site would be spacious enough that you wouldn’t have to know what your neighbor was having for breakfast. But most importantly, each site would have a minimum of 50 feet of water frontage on the lake.

Background

During the last few decades, coal was a powerful force causing acres of good farmland to roll over and give up the black energy. The local economy was temporarily spurred on as the land was piled into great heaps and lost its value as farmland. Low areas would hold water, but most of the water was too shallow to be of much use. In the early 1980’s, the coal company left the area and sold the land to people like me.

Stonefort campground today

My dream became a reality in 2003 when I started building lake front campsites. Today we have 179 campsites, all with water frontage and amenities like electricity and water at each site and great fishing in four lakes. We’d love to have you come out and take a look at what we have to offer at Stonefort Campground.
